A sensitive performing artist, French pianist Maud Caillat possesses natural gifts and true artistry. Her playing couples crystal-like sounds with powerful orchestral sonorities, showing a perfect knowledge of different piano schools. As a young composer, she writes music in a language that is sometimes reminding of Russian late romanticism. This gives a particular beauty to her works, on which she sets her own individual stamp by using specific lyricism and noticeable sense of form. 

Maud Caillat received her first music lessons at the age of six. She studied piano in Paris with the Swiss pianist and teacher Claudine Perretti, a former pupil of Alfred Cortot and Magda Tagliaferro, who passed on to her the tradition of the French piano school as well as other interpretative approaches. In the meantime she entered the Geneva Conservatory of Music (Switzerland) where she attended music theory courses. She obtained several Prizes in 1997: solfeggio, harmony, counterpoint, fugue and orchestration. In 2001 she was awarded a scholarship by the Orford Arts Centre Academy of Music (Canada) that enabled her to participate in numerous master-classes, those of Menahem Pressler, André Laplante and Robert Silverman. This unique experience introduced her to the concepts of the quality of sound, and had a crucial influence on her playing. 

She studied composition under her own steam and she was given advices by the French pedagogue Marcel Bitsch who encouraged her to continue composing. She has works to her credit such as a Piano Concerto, a Fantasy for piano and orchestra, solo piano pieces and an Opera "Rasputin" that is at the planning stage. In 2004 the Zonta International-Club Paris I offered her a bursary that aimed at helping a woman composer. In 2006 she won an Accomplished Musician Award as a composer at the IBLA Foundation competition in New-York. In 2012 she was named Stravinsky Prize Laureate by the Igor Stravinsky Foundation.

In April 2006  she was invited to perform concertos KV 414 and KV 415 by Mozart in a concert broadcasted by the Swiss Radio for Mozart Year. In 2007 she appeared several times with a chamber orchestra, playing the Mozart Concert Aria for soprano and piano obligato KV 505 and the Variations sur La ci darem la mano op.2 by Chopin. Thus she regularly appears as a chamber musician and as a soloist in different concert venues: the Orford Music Festival, the Ragusa Ibla Festival, the Concertus Saisonnus Festival, the Feast of Music, the Château de Coudrée concert series and La Schubertiade d'Espace 2.

Combining interpretative devices with piano dexterity and musicological knowledge, her repertoire includes works by Scarlatti, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Grieg, Rachmaninov, Ravel Prokofiev and Bartok. Her concerts led her to France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Canada. 

In 2009, she graduated from the Paris IV - La Sorbonne University, obtaining a Master degree in Music and Musicology. She is currently a doctoral researcher, focusing on the links between French and Soviet piano schools during the Cold War. Since 2008 she has held a teaching position in both Musicological Research and Music management at this University.

Pianiste française, Maud Caillat est une artiste sensible, dotée de facilités naturelles ainsi que d'une authentique musicalité. Elle présente un jeu particulier qui combine sonorités cristallines et orchestrales, montrant une parfaite assimilation de différentes écoles du piano. Compositrice autodidacte, elle écrit dans un style qui découle du post-romantisme russe, ce qui donne un charme particulier à des oeuvres marquées par un lyrisme chaleureux et un sens de la forme très personnels.

Maud Caillat commence l'apprentissage de la musique dès l'âge de six ans. Elle étudie le piano à Paris avec la pianiste et pédagogue Claudine Perretti, une ancienne élève d'Alfred Cortot et de Magda Tagliaferro, qui lui transmet l'enseignement de l'école française et qui lui fait également décrouvrir d'autres approches pianistiques. Parallèlement, elle suit les cours d'écriture au Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève et en 1997, elle obtient les Prix de solfège, harmonie, contrepoint, fugue et orchestration. En 2001, une bourse d'études dispensée par l'Académie de Musique du Centre d'Arts Orford lui permet de se rendre au Canada pour participer à de nombreuses master-classes avec Menahem Pressler, André Laplante et Robert Silverman. Cette expérience unique lui a apporté une ouverture d'esprit considérable sur l'école du son et a été déterminante dans son évolution.

Elle se consacre à la composition, ayant à son actif des oeuvres telles que un Concerto pour piano, une Fantaisie pour piano et orchestre, un Poème symphonique et des Portraits pour piano seul. Marcel Bitsch lui donne des conseils après avoir entendu son Concerto pour piano et l'encourage dans sa vocation de pianiste-compositrice. Actuellement, elle travaille à un Opéra dont elle a écrit le livret, intitulé "Raspoutine". En 2004, elle est boursière du Zonta International-Club Paris I (bourse de soutien à une femme compositeur) et en 2006, elle reçoit un Accomplished Musician Award au Concours de Composition de la IBLA Foundation à New-York. En 2012 elle est lauréate de la Fondation Igor Stravinsky.

Maud Caillat a joué en avril 2006 les concertos KV 414 et KV 415 de Mozart au Studio Ernest Ansermet lors d'un concert enregistré par la Radio Suisse Romande pour le 250e anniversaire de la naissance du compositeur. L'année suivante, elle s'est produite dans l'Air de concert pour soprano et piano obligato KV 505 de Mozart et les Variations sur La ci darem la mano op.2 de Chopin avec orchestre de chambre. Dès lors elle apparaît dans des formations de musique de chambre et en tant que soliste dans différents festivals de musique: le Festival de musique d'Orford, le Ragusa Ibla Festival, le Festival Concertus Saisonnus, la Fête de la Musique, les concerts d'été du Château de Coudrée et la Schubertiade d'Espace 2. Avec un répertoire allant de Scarlatti à Bartok, elle a donné des concerts en France, Allemagne, Suisse, Italie et Canada. 

Actuellement, elle est doctorante et chargée de cours en Musicologie à l'Université de Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) , où elle prépare une thèse sur l'histoire du piano français et soviétique pendant la Guerre Froide.
